GlucoDYNAMIX began in 2003 as a dynamic diabetes-management method embodied in software. Diabetech and Steve Ponder developed it together, with sponsorship from Driscoll Children’s Hospital and additional support from federal grant programs and private foundations. The work combined software, remote glucose observation, Frequent Pattern Management, and clinical judgment.
Steve’s most important contribution was making the method clinically usable and helping it take root in the lived reality of diabetes care. When continuous glucose monitoring arrived, he recognized earlier than nearly anyone how those accumulated learnings could be transformed from periodic review into continuous interpretation and action. Sugar Surfing began as the name for workshops through which Steve shared those insights directly with people living with diabetes, well before the book was published in 2015. Over the decade that followed, thousands of people living with type 1 diabetes and using CGM contributed their own experience to the evolving practice.
Twenty-three years in the making, GlucoDYNAMIX is the formal method that brings all of those lessons together. Static ratios, settings, and technical rules remain essential—they are the map. GlucoDYNAMIX occupies the dynamic lane: interpreting what is happening now, anticipating what may happen next, adapting when real life departs from the default assumptions, and helping the person, clinician, and technology learn from every response. It embodies the possibilities of dynamic diabetes management.
